This is what I kept wondering and we saw glimpses of the board game in the teasers with someone finding it on the beach. It is a much more modern concept with the kids getting sucked into the video game even though the video game is old and much before their time. Plus we get a big difference from the original with the kids getting sucked into the Jumanji world instead of the world coming to them. I am a little surprised to see the new approach to the film which I loved.

This film is supposed to not be a remake or reboot of the original Jumanji film, more of a sequel to the 1995 film which ended up raking in over $100 Million at the box office. Much of his directorial experience comes from the TV side, but he has directed a few feature films including: Bad Teacher, Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, and Sex Tape.
